Messaggio Un parere sugli Intacs
A parlare.. è Naomi and Bezalel Schendowich,

Cita:
In gross disagreement with the surgeons who perform the procedure, I believe that the
insertion of the rings is invasive, damaging to corneal tissue, unpredictable, and liable to
weaken corneal tissue that is already compromised
.

You must pick a reliable and responsible surgeon to advise and perhaps perform the procedure. Not all are the same. Some will actually tell you that the KC in your eyes is not amenable to the procedure.
All the best,
Dr. S

azz  :? :x

azz... stavi aspettando ME ????

tranquillo..

I agree with Dr. S...I am not a fan of Intacs for KC. If you thought
it was difficult to be fit before Intacs, just try after if the cornea
changes. Also, why take away moderately healthy peripheral corneal
tissue from a cornea with a progressive disease? I know there are patients
who are doing well with Intacs, however, it is not a procedure I will
recommend to my patients

Daer All,
I must state that I too will agree with both Dr. S and Dr. Sancho; since I have been asked to fit around twenty patients with contacts after the Intac procedure. Seems a great question to ask the surgeon is "What % of your Intac patients do not need contacts after the procedure?"
Remember I never see the success stories, only the failures. Do most of your surgeons patients go to glasses?, how many use simple soft lenses?, How many need nothing after Intacs? The point is that the fit is more difficult for me after the Intacs than before. This is just one doctors experience however and no way reflects the eyecare field as a whole. Ask these questions of your individual surgeon and make your decision based on the surgeons success rates. I believe Intacs have their place in the total spectrum of treating KC, but that role is still being discovered

Just to throw in my 2 cents on the intacs issue...I have intacs in my left (much worse eye). And what I have found is that the "cure" I was looking for is just a stopover on the way to a transplant. The initial response to the intacs was quite overwhelming. I found that my vision got much much better, so much in fact that soft lenses were all that I needed to obtain 20/20 vision, and without any glasses or contacts I could make out faces on the TV set FROM MY BED!!!...but... ...then it all changed, the progress I made was quickly lost to where I was in piggybacks just to be able to tollerate my lenses (wit a 20/250 BCVA). Mine is one of the great success ---- then not-so-successful cases. I do think that there is great potential with this procedure, but I will be waiting a while before I consider it for my other eye...everyday technology gets better, and perhaps sometime soon there will be a highly tested procedure that can fix the vision and prevent progression. I am going for a transplant the end of this month (I hope i can keep the intacs ring segments , maybe turn them into a laquered key chain or something...I paid enough
for them, thats for sure)
Also, I found that I was quite capable of seeing the intacs ring in low light settings...streetlights, alarm clocks, etc. Compared to KC it is nothing at all
but an occasional nussance...but something to keep in mind though...

Best wishes

Ian

e ne mette in evidenza i difetti.

@Alex
